Interests
An interest is a person, a topic, a few channels, or a mix that you want to keep up with. The bot reads what was posted since your last digest and sends you one short direct message with what matched. Nobody else sees it, and nobody is told what you follow.
Interests are off unless whoever runs the bot has switched summaries on. If /interests does not appear in your server, they are off.
Set up
Section titled “Set up”- Run
/hours setwith azoneif you have not. The digest time is read in your timezone. See Timezone and working hours. - Add what you follow with
/interests add. Your first interest turns the digest on. - Optionally change when it arrives with
/interests digest, or get one straight away with/interests now.
What an interest is
Section titled “What an interest is”An interest has up to four parts. You need at least one of person, topic or channel.
You can follow up to 10 interests, and following the same thing twice is refused. /interests list shows them all, and /interests remove deletes one for good, with no confirmation question. It replies Removed.
/interests edit takes the same options as add, plus interest, which you pick from the list that appears as you type. The list is numbered like /interests list. Give only what changes, and the bot replies Updated: with the interest as it is now. A new person or topic replaces the old one, and any channel you give replaces all the channels of that interest. You cannot clear a part, so remove the interest and add it again for that.
You type
/interests add person: @Chris channel: #art
Doge Bot replies
Saved: @Chris, #art. Your digest is on: every weekday at 09:00 (Europe/London). Change it with /interests digest, or try /interests now.

Without a saved timezone, the reply says once you set a timezone in place of the timezone, and the digest does not start until you set one with /hours set. /interests list prints one numbered line per interest, with the note in brackets. With nothing followed, it tells you to add one.
You type
/interests list

Your digest
Section titled “Your digest”Your first interest turns the digest on: every weekday at 09:00 in your timezone, once you have one. /interests digest changes the schedule and needs your timezone, for example /interests digest cadence: weekly weekday: Friday time: 5pm. Options you leave out stay as they were, and switching from weekly back to every weekday drops the weekday. The reply is Your digest is on: every weekday at 09:00 (Europe/London). or, when paused, Your digest is paused. It was set for ....
A digest covers the time since your last one, so Monday’s includes the weekend. With no recent earlier digest it covers the last 24 hours (7 days for weekly). It can arrive a few minutes after the send time. If the bot was off for more than an hour after the send time, that digest is not sent later.
A digest has a headline, then one section per interest, titled with its topic or the person (up to 12 sections). If you said in your recent messages that you would follow something up, a section called You said you’d follow up on lists it. Every item links to the message it came from; an item the bot cannot link is left out. Mentions in a digest never ping anyone.

The section titles and wording come from the AI, so yours will differ in detail. The dates are in your own date format.
When nothing matched, you get no message at all. A quiet day is not a digest that says so.
Ask for one now
Section titled “Ask for one now”/interests now writes a digest of the last 24 hours right away and shows it only to you. It needs a saved timezone and at least one interest. If nothing matched, you see Nothing matched your interests in the last 24 hours.
- You can run it 5 times in any rolling 24 hours. Every try counts, including one that failed or found nothing.
/summary nowdoes not count toward the 5. - Wait 60 seconds between requests. The two commands share this wait. It is lifted only when the command stops before it starts writing, for example because you have no interests.
- It works even if you are not on the allowlist (the list of people the bot may start direct messages with, when whoever runs the bot has set one), but it counts toward the bot’s daily limit on summaries.
Only channels you can see
Section titled “Only channels you can see”The digest reads only channels you can open and read the history of in Discord right now, checked each time it is built. If you lose access to a channel, it drops out of your next digest, and if the bot cannot tell what you can see, it uses nothing. A channel you follow but cannot see adds nothing.
A forum or text channel you follow also covers the threads and forum posts under it that you can see.
Following a person needs no consent from them. It only surfaces what they already posted in channels you can see. They are not told and cannot opt out.
Replies you may see
Section titled “Replies you may see”| You see | What it means |
|---|---|
I need your timezone first. Run /hours set and fill in zone. | Set a timezone, then try again. Adding an interest works without one. |
Pick at least one person, topic or channel. Nothing was saved. | An interest needs at least one of the three. |
You can follow at most 10 interests. Remove one first. | Remove one, then add. |
You already follow that. | An interest with the same person, topic, channels and note exists. Topics are compared without regard to letter case. |
That interest was not found. | The one you picked was removed already. Pick again from the list. |
Nothing to change. Provide at least one option. | edit needs at least one option besides interest. |
Add an interest first with /interests add. | now needs at least one interest. |
You are not following anything yet. Add one with /interests add. | list found nothing. |
Weekly digests need a weekday. Run it again and fill in weekday. | Pick a weekday. |
Weekday only applies to weekly summaries. Your digest schedule was not changed. | You gave a weekday for a digest that stays every weekday. Add cadence: weekly. |
I could not read that time. Try 9am or 09:00. | Use one of those forms. |
This command only works in the server. | Run /interests now in the server. |
Summaries are not available: AI is not configured. | Tell whoever runs the bot. |
Daily summary limit reached, try again later. | The bot writes only so many summaries a day, and this day’s allowance is used up. |
Busy right now, try again shortly. | Three summaries or digests are already being written. Try again in a moment. |
Please wait <N> seconds before asking for another summary. /summary now and /interests now share this limit. | One request per person every 60 seconds, shared by both commands. |
You can ask for 5 on-demand digests per day. Try again later or wait for your digest. | You used /interests now 5 times in the last 24 hours. |
I could not find any channels you can view right now. | None of the channels the bot reads are ones you can open. |
The topic cannot be empty. Nothing was saved. | A topic that is only spaces. A note that is only spaces gets The note cannot be empty. Nothing was saved. |
I could not write that summary right now. Nothing was sent; try again in a minute. | The model failed. The 60 second wait and the 5 a day limit still count this try. |
Something went wrong, try again in a minute. | An unexpected error stopped the digest. Try again. |
Why you might not get a digest
Section titled “Why you might not get a digest”| Reason | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nothing matched your interests. | Nothing. It is skipped on purpose. |
| No timezone saved, or the digest is paused. | Run /hours set with a zone, or /interests digest with state: active. |
| No interests added. | Run /interests add. |
| It is the weekend where you are. Digests arrive every weekday. | Nothing. Monday’s covers the gap. |
| You are not in the server. | Nothing is sent to people who have left. |
| You can see none of the channels the bot reads. | Nothing is sent and the try is skipped. |
| The bot was off for more than an hour after the send time. | The missed digest is not sent later. Use /interests now. |
| Your direct messages from the bot are closed, or you are not on the allowlist. | See Why you might not get a scheduled summary. With closed direct messages the bot still builds the digest and uses part of its allowance before it fails to deliver it, so open them to stop that. |
| The bot hit its daily limit on summaries. | Use /interests now later. |
- Summaries covers project summaries, which work the same way.
- What the bot stores lists what the bot keeps.
